20 keep busy this afternoon with 5 alarms with in a 3 hour period. It started with an inside investigation at 103 Truman St. Blair Twp. Resident stated that they could smell electrical odor in the basement. Deputy Chief 20-02 (Gearheart) responded direct and assumed command. 20-11, 20-31 and 20-32 also responded to the scene. The engine crew enter the two story residential structure and began to investigate.
The source of the oder was thought to be coming from the furnace. Crews secured the power to the furnace. There was an power outage in the area thought to cause the furnace motor to get hot. Crews cleared the scene.
During the first alarm 20 Fire Police were dispatched to Rte. 22 and Plank road to provide traffic control due to the signal lights being out. 20-81 (Fox) was on the scene along with 20-41.
At 12:20 20 was then dispatched to 208 Justice for an inside investigation. County reported that the home owner had an fire in the furnace area but thought to be out. Asst. Chief 20-04 (T. Gearheart) responded direct and assumed command. After arriving on the scene 20-04 advised County that he had a light smoke condition. 20-11, 20-31,20-41 and 20-32 all responded to the scene. 20-11 arrived on the scene and went right to work checking for extension.
Crews had to open up some walls around the furnace area to find hot spots. A TIC was used to pin point the hot areas. Crews used a can to cool the hot spots. Crews worked the scene removing smoldering debris. All utilities were secure to the furnace.Crews worked the scene for about an hour.
As 20 was leaving the scene, 20-41 was flagged down by a resident. They were concerned because their CO detector was going off. 20-41 and 20-11 stopped to investigate. Crews entered the two story structure with the quad gas meter. Crews checked all the floors with negative elevated CO readings. Advised the resident of findings. 20 cleared the scene.
After clearing that scene, 20 was then dispatched to 150 Patchway Drive for an Commercial Fire Alarm. 20-11, 20-41 and 20-32 responded to the scene Asst. Chief 20-04 (T. Gearheart) arrived on the scene and assumed command. Normal conditions were presented. Crews could not enter the single story bank to investigate County was contacted for a key holder to respond. County advised that the key holder could not respond. 20-04 placed the box back into service.
